Peter J Howard, MD

Dr. Peter Howard is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopy. Dr. Howard obtained his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. After his undergraduate education, Dr. Howard completed his medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He then trained in orthopedics at the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker School of Medicine. During his final year, he served as chief resident at Bronson Methodist Hospital and Borgess Medical Center. Seeking additional sub-specialization; he trained in sports medicine and arthroscopy at the Houston Methodist Hospital. During his time there he worked with and cared for the Houston Astros, Texans, Dynamo, Rockets, the Rice University Owls, and many high school teams.

Dr. Howard’s areas of interest include the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and biologic therapies. Dr. Howard focuses on helping athletes and weekend warriors get back to full activity.

Shoulder problems: Rotator cuff repair, revision rotator cuff repair, PRP ( platelet rich plasma ) injections, shoulder dislocations, labral tears, Latarjet surgery, throwing injuries, baseball injuries, tennis injuries, bicep pain, golf injuries, pitcher’s shoulder, clavicle fracture, collarbone fracture, shoulder separation, shoulder replacement, reverse shoulder replacement.

Elbow problems: Tommy John surgery ( ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction ), elbow arthroscopy, radial head replacement, fractures of the elbow, osteochondritis dissecans, distal bicep repair, tricep repair, and many more procedures.

Hip Problems: Femoroacetabular impingement, hip arthroscopy, torn labrum, labrum tear, cam lesion, pincer lesion, cam and pincer lesion, hip muscle tear, abductor tear, hamstring tear, hamstring pain, hip ligament damage, hip labral reconstruction, groin impingement.

Knee problems: Anterior cruciate ligament tears ( ACL ), medial collateral ligament tears ( MCL ), posterior cruciate ligament tears ( PCL ), lateral collateral ligament tears ( LCL ), meniscus surgery, meniscus tears, football knee injuries, soccer knee injuries, volleyball knee injuries, revision ACL surgery, ACL reconstruction, ACL replacement, cartilage transplants, meniscus transplant, and many more procedures.

Joint Replacement: Dr. Howard specializes in Shoulder, Knee, and Hip replacements.

Biologic Treatments: Dr. Howard also received advanced training in Platelet Rich Plasma treatments, Bone Marrow Concentrate Aspirate Injections, and Stem Cell Injections. Dr. Howard is also FDA certified for MACI cartilage transplants.

Dr. Howard’s treatment philosophy is to try to exhaust all non-surgical options before considering surgery. He works with his patients to educate and explain their condition so that they can fully understand their treatment options. If surgery is a choice made by the patient, he believes in being with the patient through their full course of surgery and recovery. He also believes working closely with the physical and occupational therapists that care for his patients. Dr. Howard stays up to date on the newest treatment options so that he can provide the latest treatments to his patients.

Dr. Howard is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

In his time off Dr. Howard enjoys fishing, boating, going to the beach, biking, and spending time with his wife and daughters.
