Jamii St. Julien, MD, MPH, FACS

Dr. St. Julien was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Before settling in St. Petersburg, FL, and joining the team at Bay Surgical Specialists, he traveled all across the country for his medical training.

“My training really sets me apart as a doctor, because I’ve studied at the best of the best places. Not only did I receive really great general surgical training, but also extra surgical oncology training and amazing advanced minimally invasive surgery training. It’s lead me to be able to do things that not many other doctors can do.”

When it comes to formal training, Dr. St. Julien truly has learned from the best institutions in the medical field. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Florida A&M University in 2002. He received his Master’s of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2006 and his medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2007. He completed his general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee in 2014, and spent two years at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, focusing on clinical research in patients with endocrine and pancreatic malignancies. Dr. St. Julien then completed a fellowship in Advanced GI Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in 2017, where he focused on advanced laparoscopic surgery techniques in liver, pancreatic, foregut, bariatric, and robotic surgery.

Dr. St. Julien is committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based, and compassionate care to every patient, with his main focus being on obtaining the best clinical outcomes using minimally invasive techniques. He prides himself on connecting with his patients and breaking down complex procedures to a level they can understand and feel comforted by.

“Small incisions, quick recovery time, and less pain offer better cosmetic outcomes and better surgical and clinical outcomes. Everything about minimally invasive surgery is better, but it’s important to find a doctor with the skillset to perform this type of procedure. A lot of times, my patients can be scared when they’re going into surgery, but are incredibly happy and grateful with the results afterward, when they realize how smooth the surgical process can be.”
